This dataset includes data from adolescents (age 14 - 17 years) recruited as part of a larger prospective cohort study of children younger than 18 years treated for a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or an arm injury. Study measures included assessments of disability in health-related quality of life, adaptive skills, and participation in social and community activities, pain, and posttraumatic stress symptoms, with follow-up assessments 3, 12, and 24 months after injury.

The study recruited participants at 10 hospitals. Children under age 18 (in this dataset - children age 14 - 17 years) treated in the Emergency Department or admitted as inpatients for traumatic brain injury (TBI) or arm injury. Study participants were selected by computer-generated random number from the list of all eligible children who were treated during the study period, with stratification by age group, gender, TBI versus arm injury, and whether hospitalized (within the TBI group).
